How much to eat in order to build muscle is the question that haunts many guys forever. It seems that you never eat enough of the right things and you always eat too much of the wrong things. It can be really frustrating and trying to calculate the nutrition value of each meal can make you go nuts.
What helps a lot is knowing what other, successful people, like the pro bodybuilders eat and how they eat. They must be doing something right that got them where they are. So here’s a fantastic infographic that shows the eating habits of such superstar bodybuilders as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jay Cutler and others.
What can we take away from this? First thing, unsurprisingly, is that they eat really a lot. For example Arnold Schwarzenegger used to have up to 50 grams of protein on top of his meal – that’s a lot of protein. They also eat many times a day, such as Jay Cutler who ate 10 meals a day, and those are not snacks.
Drinking a lot of water is unsurprising, especially when you’re such a big guy. Another thing to note is that their biggest overall calorie intake as well as the biggest carb intake happens around workout time.
But also, you’ll notice that the diet of these guys isn’t necessarily so strict and there are certain meals they’d like to eat that aren’t exactly dietary. Such as Arnold having a pitcher of beer post workout. So don’t be so hard on yourself if you lose yourself and cheat once in a while (or even regularly).
